Greg Dahms

Candidate for Councillor

Background

Greg Dahms is a Kelowna real estate professional and local entrepreneur. He moved to the Okanagan Valley from Vancouver in 2002 and has raised two children in the community.

Dahms holds a Diploma in Hospitality Administration, supplemented by ongoing coursework toward an Associate Degree in Business. He previously owned the Kelowna SPCA Thrift Store, which raised funds for the local BC SPCA shelter, and is a full-time real estate agent.

His volunteer history includes the Linda Howorth Preschool Fundraising Committee, Hillcrest Elementary Playground Committee and PAC, youth soccer coaching, and fundraising for the Salvation Army, Gospel Mission, Humane Society, and BC SPCA initiatives. He has surpassed 600 hours of service at the Mission Thrift Store and began volunteering with the Vancouver Board of Parks and Recreation over four decades ago.

Dahms's political history includes running as an MLA candidate during the 2001 Provincial Election and serving as a Fundraising Chair on a provincial party board. The specific party is not named on his campaign site.

2026 Campaign

Dahms is running for Kelowna City Council for the third time, following unsuccessful bids in 2018 (second-last finish) and 2022 (third-last finish, 1,929 votes / 5.53% of ballots). In the 2022 Wikipedia accounting, he received 1,898 votes (0.89% of votes cast for the office).

His campaign slogan is "Less Politics. More Common Sense." He announced his candidacy on August 28, 2026, saying: "I'm running again because many of the concerns residents were raising eight years ago are still front and centre today, and we need a practical, common-sense approach to solving these challenges."

His platform is organized around four pillars: (1) Safety & Security — "working with police, fire, emergency services, and community organizations"; (2) Economic Growth — "City hall should be a partner, not a roadblock"; (3) Infrastructure — "maintaining what we already have, plan for future growth, and invest wisely"; (4) Housing Affordability & Cost of Living — "a home should be in reach for people who work, live and contribute to our community." He also cites parks and recreation, stating: "We also need to protect our parks, recreation spaces and quality of life."

In an undated ForChange Kelowna candidate questionnaire, Dahms elaborated on his platform. On housing, he cited the City's 2024 Interim Housing Needs Assessment as estimating that 44,500 additional residential units are needed between 2021 and 2041 (including roughly 6,000 addressing existing unmet need) — a figure he attributed to the City, not independently verified here — and proposed quantifying how much municipal fees, approval processes, and regulations add to the cost of a new home. On safety, he called for demanding measurable outcomes from homelessness spending, such as how many entered programs, were housed, or returned to homelessness, and the cost per successful housing outcome. He also flagged downtown electrical-capacity and flooding concerns alongside traffic congestion.

Dahms has stated he has stepped back from his business to dedicate his time to the campaign and, if elected, to serving the residents of Kelowna.
