Silverado Brooks Socrates

Candidate for Councillor

Background

Silverado Brooks Socrates was born in Cold Lake, Alberta, and has lived in the Okanagan since 1981.

Socrates is a former track athlete and federally funded Olympic hopeful who attended the University of Victoria. A CIS record from her third year of university still stood for approximately 25 years (4×800 m relay).

She spent 30 years in the tourism field as a horse trail ride owner-operator and has experience in public speaking through Toastmasters, open mikes, and karaoke.

A longtime Okanagan resident, Socrates has spoken publicly about her experience with homelessness after losing her home and business.

Socrates ran federally for Kelowna–Lake Country in 2019 as an independent following a failed Green Party nomination bid. (YouTube, 2019 — https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oxu2LaK5Jaw) She ran for Mayor of Kelowna in 2022 as an independent, one of five mayoral candidates. (VoteMate, 2022 — https://votemate.org/local2022/candidates/7445) Her 2022 Financial Report of Political Contributions (FRPC) filing was for the office of Mayor, Kelowna, with $234.78 in contributions. (Elections BC FRPC, 2022)

Her 2026 candidacy for Councillor represents a down-ballot move from her 2022 mayoral run.
