Teresa May

Candidate for Councillor

Background

Teresa May (spelled with an "e") has no prior Kelowna campaign-finance disclosure on file (2014–2022) and is a longtime Kelowna resident.

She has worked across a range of businesses, including a custom home-building company, a film-industry talent agency, a dental practice, a furniture-refinishing business, a fundraising enterprise, and a specialty meat shop. She is also a former teacher and published author, and currently works in residential construction.

Her volunteer work has included roles with the Canadian Cancer Society, the Kelowna Children's Festival, the Community Food Bank, Canadian Blood Services, the Kelowna Gospel Mission, and Bridge Youth & Family Services.

2026 Campaign

May is running under the theme "Building a Stronger Kelowna, Together" and has led a "1,000 Conversations Tour" door-to-door campaign. Her stated priorities are safe streets, housing that works, seniors and families, and a strong local economy. She has said: "I am not running to be a career politician. I am running because I care deeply about our community."

In an undated ForChange Kelowna candidate questionnaire, May elaborated on her priorities. On community safety and addiction, she called for stronger City partnerships with the RCMP, Interior Health, BC Housing and outreach organizations, advocated for more recovery-focused treatment and mental-health services, and better communication of measurable outcomes. On fiscal responsibility, she said she would review major capital projects and operating budgets for public value and improve transparency. On housing, she supported expanding housing options in appropriate locations while respecting established neighbourhoods, streamlining approvals without compromising planning, and building complete communities where people can live, work and access services closer to home.
